The Crystal Gardens has been boarded up and vacant since at least 2019. The future of this building is uncertain at present.
The Crystal Gardens were constructed in either 1920 or 1929. The Biographical Dictionary of Architects in Canada (1850-1900) provides the date of construction as c. 1920, whereas ERA Architects in their February 2018 Toronto Building Typology Study Church-Wellesley Village: The Pre-war Apartment Buildings provides the date of construction as 1929.
The Crystal Gardens are a 2 storey plus basement walk-up apartment building. They are situated on the north side of Maitland Street between Church Street and Jarvis Street in the Church-Wellesley Village neighbourhood of Toronto. The building (specifically its western portion) is partially situated as an architectural terminating vista at the northern terminus of Mutual Street.
The architect of the Crystal Gardens (110 Maitland Street) was Herbert Charles Roberts (1888-1949).
