Notes:

The Hillcrest Public School and community centre on Bathurst was built in 1905 by the Bracondale Village Library Board.

The secretary of the Board Matthew B. Holmes became the first principal of the school and stayed in this role until the 1930s.

Eventually Hillcrest School was taken over by the Toronto Board of Education when Bracondale and Wychwood were annexed to the City of Toronto in 1909.

The School went through a number of expansions throughout its history. Architect Charles Cyris Dyson worked on the expansion from 1922-23.

The local library was still operated out of the Hillcrest School until 1916 when the Wychwood library branch opened further up Bathurst at Melgund Rd.

While it’s missing it’s original bell tower, the Hillcrest Community Centre and School stills sits pretty on the hill and is a nice reminder of the school days of the past.
