The Peacock Hotel caught fire on May 22, 2019 resulting in partial collapse of the front façade, the rear facade had collapsed earlier. The building was vacant at the time of the fire. The building was demolished entirely in the summer of 2020. Built in 1890, the Peacock Hotel is a treasured Junction landmark, designed by architect James Ellis. It replaced an earlier, 1820 Peacock Hotel on the same site.
